Do the DMV riding skills test on an electric motorcycle!

October 22, 2009

Imagine doing the DMV riding skills (aka the circle-and-cone) test on an electric motorcycle: No gear shifting, no clutch, a lightweight bike (only 270 lbs) and easy to steer….

Sounds too good to be true?
Not when you rent the Zero-S electric motorcycle at EDR!

Yesterday, on October 21st, Huntington Beach resident Deric Burk rented the Zero-S electric motorcycle at EDR. An hour before the DMV riding skill test he showed up at EDR to practice the ‘circle-and-cone test’ in our parking lot.
After some practice we took the Zero-S for him to the Costa Mesa DMV on 19th St, and after waiting in line for a bit Deric was up.
The DMV employee was a bit surprised when he saw the electric motorcycle at first, but since it’s freeway legal and it’s registered as a motorcycle, it was all good.

Less then 10 minutes later the DMV officer told Deric he had passed the riding skills test! When we asked Deric afterwards if the electric motorcycle made the test easier for him he told us: “This bike is so light and handles great, it steers as easy as a bicycle. It definitely made it easier to pass the DMV riding test. I’m stoked to have my M1 license now. I can ride at night and I can take my girl with me as well!”

So are you looking into getting your M1 license? Or maybe your friend, wife or neighbor? Sent them over and we’ll get them on the road!

Want to do the DMV riding skills test on a regular gas powered motorcycle?
Then rent our Honda Rebel!

October 17, 2009

If you drive by our showroom on Newport Blvd you can’t miss this custom bike in our window! Since a few weeks we have the famous ‘tribal chopper’ on our floor, which was built for NBC’s Fear Factor and was also featured in the ESPN commercial during the final of the 41st Superbowl.

This custom chopper is built by Metropolitan Choppers out of Maryland, USA. They are also the ones that built the famous ‘Sirens of Ti’ chopper at the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas.

This guy knew what he wanted and gave us a few guidelines - low, loud and something red - and the freedom to knock his socks off! It looks like we succeeded! The fat ‘300′ series tire adds bulk to this awesome machine. Take the turns wide, C!”

WHAT IS A POKER RUN & HOW DOES IT WORK?

Essentially a Poker Run works like a raffle but instead of raffle tickets you get a poker hand.

A poker run is an event where we visit multiple locations playing 5-card stud poker along the way. Here is how it works. We meet at Denny’s. Everyone who registers for and makes their donation is eligible for the Poker Run. At Denny’s you get your first two cards. Then we ride to the next destination (The Rolling Stop) and everyone draws two more cards. Everyone now has four cards to a five card hand. At the final stop (Hell’s Kitchen) everyone gets their fifth/final card. (the best poker hand wins the cash prize of $100.

09 Street Glide and 07 Sporter Low added to fleet!

October 7, 2009

We just added two more Harley’s to our fleet!

The first new one is the long awaited and always popular 2009 Street Glide. The best of both worlds with fairing with a low windshield on the front and low back (no touring pack). The Street Glide comes with a radio/CD player. If needed you can put the passenger backrest on with a luggage rack. See the Harley page for more info and photos.

The second new Harley we added to our fleet is the 2007 Sportster 1200 low. This nice white and black colorway has the powerful 1200cc engine that will ride great on PCH or in the hills,  but also has more then enough power to ride on the freeway. And with the lower seat this is a great bike for the newer/younger/shorter or female riders out there. See the Harley page for more info and photos.

Both bikes are both for rent and for sale!
Check out the EDR Cycletrader page to see our sales prices (of all our bikes).
